How to Remove Red Wine Stains from Carpet

- White paper towels or a white cotton cloth
- Cold water
- Wool detergent (such as Softly)
- Vinegar
- A phone (just in case)
Step-by-step method
- Blot immediately
Use a white cloth or paper towel to blot up as much wine as possible. Avoid rubbing — blotting lifts liquid without spreading the stain. - Dilute the stain
Apply a small amount of cold water to the affected area to dilute what remains. Continue blotting gently. Be careful not to overwet the carpet. - Apply a mild cleaning solution
Mix one teaspoon of wool detergent and one teaspoon of vinegar into a cup of water. Dab this onto the stain and blot from the outside inwards. - Rinse and dry

- Wool detergent (such as Softly)
- Vinegar
- Hydrogen peroxide (20 vol, diluted)
- A phone
Step-by-step method
- Blot first
Absorb as much of the blood as possible using a white cloth or paper towel. - Dilute with cool water
Apply a small amount of cool water to the stain and continue blotting. Never use hot water — it can set blood stains permanently. - Apply cleaning solution
Mix one teaspoon of wool detergent and one teaspoon of vinegar into a cup of cool water. Dab gently onto the stain and blot from the edges toward the centre. - Use hydrogen peroxide if needed
If the stain remains, apply a diluted solution (1 part hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts cool water). Leave for 10 minutes, then blot dry. - Rinse and dry
Lightly sponge with cool water and blot dry. Use a fan to assist drying. - If it returns, stop and call Elite
